{"id":1389,"date":"2024-09-21T12:29:18","date_gmt":"2024-09-21T16:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/responsiblewakes.org\/?p=1389"},"modified":"2024-09-21T12:29:18","modified_gmt":"2024-09-21T16:29:18","slug":"how-well-are-the-anrs-new-wake-boat-regulations-working-on-your-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/responsiblewakes.org\/?p=1389","title":{"rendered":"How Well Are the ANR\u2019s New Wake Boat Regulations Working on\u00a0Your\u00a0Lake?\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The ANR\u2019s new wake boat regulations went into effect on April 15<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp;&nbsp;With summer in the rear-view mirror, how well did they work on&nbsp;<em>your<\/em>&nbsp;lake?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has indicated there have been few violations involving wake boats reported to the VT State Police Marine Division and local game wardens (Fish and Wildlife) this past summer, but that\u2019s hardly surprising.&nbsp;&nbsp;Given the limited enforcement capacity of these authorities, the public has little incentive to report infractions.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also, finding where to go online to report an infraction can be nearly impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Responsible Wakes for Vermont Lakes (RWVL) group is sending this Our Responsible Wakes for Vermont Lakes (RWVL) group is sending this newsletter to encourage you to share what you have observed this summer.&nbsp;&nbsp;First, regarding wake boat activities on your lake:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Have there been dangerous incidents or disregard of designated wake sport zones?\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have wake sports negatively impacted the enjoyment of other users on your lake?\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When wake boats show up, are other users leaving the lake or retreating to \u201csafe\u201d places on the lake far from the wake sports zone?\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are you or other lake users heading to another lake where wake sports are not allowed?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"747\" height=\"363\" src=\"http:\/\/responsiblewakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Wake-boat-from-Lakes-at-Stake-Video-9-2024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1393\" srcset=\"http:\/\/responsiblewakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Wake-boat-from-Lakes-at-Stake-Video-9-2024.png 747w, http:\/\/responsiblewakes.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Wake-boat-from-Lakes-at-Stake-Video-9-2024-300x146.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 747px) 100vw, 747px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Second, as you probably know, the DEC did not implement the Home Lake sticker system this summer. Additionally, certified effective boat decontamination stations have been located only on Lake Champlain. Without these key aspects of the Home Lake rule in place, there could be no enforcement of this critical aspect of the new regulations this summer.\u00a0\u00a0Sharing concerns about enforcement of the Home Lake rule is especially important at this point in time so that they can be addressed in time for the summer of 2025. Regarding the Home Lake Rule:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Were wake boats from elsewhere launched on your lake?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Were there concerns about compliance with the Home Lake rule?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We urge you to take a few minutes today to report any violations, concerns, or observations you have regarding how well the new regulations worked this summer.&nbsp;&nbsp;The DEC plans to hold a meeting (likely with remote access) to obtain public feedback on the new regulations and to review input they have received from enforcement agencies about the effectiveness of the new rules.&nbsp;&nbsp;Although a date for that meeting has not yet been released, your comments will help RWVL prepare for that meeting.
