Where we Stand, The Course Ahead<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When RWVL launched, wakesports were permitted on 78<\/strong> Vermont lakes. Thanks to the first round of rulemaking \u2014 and your advocacy \u2014 that number dropped to 30<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second statewide round, now underway, would bring it down to 18<\/strong>. Its success depends on the same committed community that started this work five years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our  immediate goal is protect 10 more lakes<\/strong> by securing the second round of rulemaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once these are achieved, RWVL will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. Work to prohibit wakesports on 5 petitioning lakes out of the 18 <\/strong> \u2014 the two Averills, Caspian, Willoughby, and Echo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Support statewide efforts against aquatic invasive species<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    What happens next<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Before new rules take effect for the summer 2026 boating season, four steps must be completed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • The Agency of Natural Resources analyzes public comments received in February.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • ANR submits the rules to the Legislative Committee on Administrative Rules (LCAR).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • LCAR confirms the rules align with legislative intent.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Rules are enacted before the 2026 season opens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
