More Comments Needed by Friday

The Department of Environmental Conservation has extended the comment period for its amended Wakesports Rule to Friday, February 27 at 4:30 PM. Enactment of this rule is critically important to many of our lakes. Even if you have commented before, please take this opportunity to comment again (link below). Please also ask your family, friends, and neighbors to do the same — and have them include the name of their VT lake or pond.

What’s at stake is graphically described in this poem.

Twenty Thousand

Twenty-thousand paddling kayaks,
Fishing boats, swimmers, and canoes,
Battle 200 obnoxious wake surfers,
On our lake waters calm and blue.

We need to send Montpelier a message:
These monsters are destroying our lakes.
Swamping our small craft with each passage,
And spreading pollution in their wakes.

So contact to the Vermont Department
Of Environment, that’s what it takes;
Tell them you support their effort
To keep those big boats off our lakes.

The wake boaters, with out-of-state money,
Are lobbying to kibosh this act:
Tens of thousands they’re spending: not funny,
Each month in Montpelier: that’s a fact.

Sending your comment is easy:
Connect to the link down below;
Tell them you’re in favor of the new rule,
And tell them why that’s so.

We have up ‘till Friday at four
To flood them with comments astute.
Even if you’ve already sent one,
It’s helpful to fill up the chute.

Please forward this on to your colleagues,
Lake lovers, paddlers, and friends;
Help limit the wake surfing follies,
Support what the people intend.
